Here's good news from Sony and Waste Management about an e-waste recycling program they recently unveiled nationwide:

At Sony, we support the recycling of our products with the same respect we have when creating them. Teaming up with Waste Management, we’ve built a recycling program that makes it easy to dispose of electronics in an environmentally-safe way. Bring your unwanted Sony product to any participating Waste Management eCycling drop-off center and recycle it for free.

Of course, not all of us live near a Waste Management eCycling center (there are currently none listed in Wyoming), and we all have e-waste from other manufacturers than Sony, but this is a good start. In fact, it reminds me of the early days of Nike's Reuse A  Shoe program, which I helped launch back in 1993. What started out as a U.S. Nike-shoes-only program has turned into a global program that collects all brands of athletic shoes — over 20 million pairs and counting.

Jackson Hole residents should note that Jackson Community Recycling has had an e-waste recycling program for a number of years. It's not free, but it's is available and effective.

To responsibly dispose of your televisions, computer monitors, and other consumer electronics you can:

·Bring them to the JCR recycling center Monday-Friday 9:00-6:00. We ask that residents make a contribution covering our disposal and shipping costs, which are 50 cents a pound. We ask that businesses pay the full 50 cents per pound.
