political choices

With more than 14 months to go until the next Presidential election, it seems awfully early for the media to serve up the breadth and depth of coverage that we are currently being offered. And, something tells me the coverage has more to do with the monumental choices we face than simply reflecting the proliferation of mass media.

The media, however, do seem more engaged than ever. Consider the partnership between Grist and Outside, who have teamed up to produce How Green Is Your Candidate–a series of interviews and information on all the presidential candidates' energy plans and environmental positions. One would expect Grist to be on top of the issue, but Outside–"America's leading active-lifestyle and adventure-travel magazine"–is certainly treading new ground by publishing in-depth interviews with political candidates.

Good for them! As far as I'm concerned, any and all responsible news coverage of the presidential candidates' energy plans and environmental positions is welcome. The tough choices we'll face over the next 14 months demand the most informed electorate ever.
