The folks at KEEN footwear here in Portland are certainly doing their bit to promote sustainability.

Many of their staff are currently riding their bicycles from Portland to Salt Lake City to attend the Outdoor Retailer Summer show. Hybrid.Pedal is

 a 1,000-mile outdoor industry cycling initiative and accompanying documentary film to generate awareness for The Conservation Alliance a non-profit group of outdoor businesses dedicated to protecting wild places for their habitat and recreation value.

Hybrid.Pedal will travel through many of the places The Conservation Alliance has helped preserve and other areas still needing protection. The entire trip will be documented on film and shown at the August 2007 Outdoor Retailer tradeshow in Salt Lake City, UT with the option to show the documentary at film festivals across the country.

And, just in time for the Summer Show, KEEN has announced three consumer contests, each with a grand prize of $25,000!

Stand Up gives creative folks a chance to create a creative, original work devoted to sustainability, positive environmental change, and/or raising environmental awareness in any one of the following categories: film, fine arts, journalism, design, and photography.

Stand Out asks active folks to write a creative, original statement (200 words or less) about your passion for a qualifying outdoor activity; how your activity will support sustainability and positive environmental change, and/or raise environmental awareness; and your plan for how to use a prize, if awarded, to support sustainability, positive environmental change, and/or raise environmental awareness through your activity.

Stand For encourages action oriented folks to  create a creative, original work devoted to sustainability, positive environmental change, and/or raising environmental awareness in any one of the following categories: film, fine arts, journalism, design, and photography.

Each contest has different rules, so be sure to read the fine print. Entries close three hours after the ball drops in Times Square.
