calorie AND carbon counting
Jul
My friend Alonzo wonders
whether anyone has put together a resource book of the carbon impact of the foods we eat and the drinks we drink. I remember you commenting once on the banana and I have recently read about Evian bottled water. Perhaps choices would become clearer if we had an easy reference guide.
He's right, we do need a reliable and comprehensive reference guide…until carbon footprint labeling becomes widespread. (Maybe the reference guide will be my project for next year?)
Of course, there are lots of book out there touting a particular food agenda, but none that I could find that specifically looked at food choice through the eyes of a carbon calculator. (If anyone knows of one, please chime in.)
In the meantime, there are a couple of posts on Treehugger that skirt the carbon counting issue, but do offer good food for thought (pardon the pun) about the food choices we do make:
- Better and Greener Grocery Shopping
- a book review of The Way We Eat
Carbon Neutral Journal's tips are brought to you by Nuts & Bolts.
