two sisters from Cora, Wyoming

A couple of weeks ago I shared Gretel Erlich's appeal for readers to help save a piece of Planet Wyoming. Of course, it's way too soon to tell if an onslaught of comments to the BLM will have any effect on their decision whether or not to allow oil and gas drilling on the Upper Green, but we can always hope.

And we should hope, because positive thoughts and actions can go a long way–even in the face of long odds that the current administration will do anything but proceed willy-nilly on it's path to exploit every possible natural resource.

So, it is in that spirit of hope and positive thoughts that I want to pass along an opportunity and some good vibes from two sisters from Cora:

Today Sublette County is experiencing drastic and sometimes difficult changes. The recent oil and natural gas boom on the Pinedale Anticline has brought many new challenges to our local communities. This development touches all aspects of our lives, from our health, to our children's education, the environment, and the future economic security of these communities.

As two sisters from Cora, our lives have been greatly touched and shaped by the unique beauty of Sublette County and the people who live here. We care deeply about this place, and we understand that you are somehow connected to it as well. We are inviting you to participate in a community art project called the HeART of Sublette County, where you can share your talents and express your feelings and visions for Sublette County and the surrounding areas.

I presume I got this letter from Callie and Sara because I sent a comment to the BLM; I hope everyone who commented (pro or con) got this same letter. The HeART of Sublette County isn't about advocacy, it's about "creating an expression of this place through the hearts and eyes of the people who know it best."

As the call for participation states:

All ages, levels, and types of creativity are welcome. Everyone can contribute and be a part of this project. All mediums are welcome: music, photography, film, poetry, sculpture, movement, painting, drawing…

The culminating event of this project is scheduled for next summer. In addition to a show in Pinedale, Callie and Sara hope to take the show on the road throughout Western Wyoming and publish an exhibition booklet.

If you'd like to enter and/or support this HeARTfelt effort, contact Callie and Sara: calliedomekATyahoo.com or (307) 367-6832.
