on track to save 10%!

Like a Prius driver who always strives to achieve better mileage, I look forward to the day when our Lower Valley Energy bill arrives in the mail. It provides the most immediate and tangible feedback on how our efforts to conserve energy are paying off.
With five months on the meter (so to speak) and winter behind us, the comparisons between year-to-date and the same period last year are very encouraging. In fact we are right on track to reduce our energy consumption (electricity and natural gas) by 10% or more this year!
(As a point of comparison, when I last looked at our energy use stats two months ago, we had reduced our energy consumption by 4.8%. )
Here's the updated snapshot:
| 2006 (total 1st 5 months) | 2007 (total 1st 5 months) | |
| electrical use (kilowatt hours) | 10,034 kwh | 10,973 kwh |
| natural gas use (therms converted to kilowatt hours) | 231 therms = 6,765 kwh | 146 therms = 4,276 kwh |
| total energy use (kilowatt hours) | 16,799 kwh | 15,249 kwh |
