working with schools
May
Kudos to the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) for their generous support of innovative renewable energy projects and their potential to educate and inspire our youth and our communities.
My friend Andy recently passed along grant application information on BEF's Solar 4R Schools Progam, hoping I could get it into the hands of local school district officials, interested parents and architects–and the Global Warming Heroes League, of course. As I read through the Solar 4R Schools Project Criteria and Proposal Process, I thought it was worth sharing with the largest audience possible.
Here are the basics (keep in mind that BEF typically defines its territory as Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana, though they find ways to do a lot of great work here in Jackson):
BEF seeks to install 1.1 kW demonstration solar and data acquisition systems on middle and high schools. This program is designed specifically for schools interested in increasing the visibility of renewable energy. Successful projects will offer aggressive education and outreach plans in an attempt to overcome barriers to widespread adoption of photovoltaics.
Increasing visibility, growing understanding, ensuring cost-effectiveness and promoting innovation comprise BEF's mantra for Solar 4R Schools. If you're interested in applying, follow the links.
