Under the heading we're all in this together, I've got to give props to Greendimes.
Yesterday I received a comment/question about my recent phone book rant. Brad asked:
What's the solution? They should have some way to opt out of receiving them. I toss mine in the recycle bin, but it would obviously be better if there was some way to just make them stop.
Obviously, I don't know the solution, but I thought the folks at Greendimes might; they're on crusade to stop junk mail and, since we get a couple of unwanted phone books via the Post Office, I turned to them.
Here's a quick first response from Ted at Greendimes:
It's terrible to think how many phone books go straight to the recycling bin - or even worse, the garbage. We should be able to cut it off at the source. Unfortunately I don't have answer for you right now on opting out of receiving phone books. Can you give me a week so that I may give you the proper info and then have something additional to post on your blog?
Thanks again for asking…
WOW! Here's a guy who doesn't know me from Adam, thanking me for giving him more work to do. And promising to get me a post-worthy response within a week.
Stay tuned.
