A group of seventh-grade boys here in Jackson have banded together to form the Global Warming Hero League.
After attending the 2010 Imperative webcast, the boys approached the middle school principal and said they wanted to form a group to fight global warming. Since when do seventh-grade boys take the initiative at school and ask to do something they don't have to do?
The boys' taking the bull by the horns earned them a slot at a recent school board meeting, where they challenged the district to replace all light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs and look for other ways to reduce energy use and become carbon neutral. And, next Wednesday, they'll join Mayor Mark Barron at his weekly Brown Bag Lunch at Town Hall.
Future plans include a website and an appearance in the Fourth of July Parade. By then, who knows, there might even be some girls who have joined the Global Warming Hero League.
Stay tuned.
