green travel planning

Lots of folks around here are looking forward to mud season–looking forward to getting out of the valley during mud season, that is.

A lot of those same folks, I would imagine, just received their annual dividend check and packet from REI, the outdoor equipment co-op with over 3 million members.

Here's a tip for those folks who typically don't read things like president's messages in annual reports: REI Adventures now offers carbon neutral travel options. Yep, you can rest assured that your trip with REI Adventures is 100% offset, including any air travel to and from the trip destination.

Here's how it all works: REI Adventures buys BEF Green Tags from Bonneville Environmental Foundation to offset the greenhouse gas impacts of air, water and ground travel associated with all excursions. REI Adventures expects to purchase more than 52,000 BEF Green Tags in 2007, offsetting more than 36,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

Bonneville Environmental Foundation has another carbon offsetting offer for REI customers who may not be planning a trip: you can buy BEF Green Tags to offset the environmental impacts of heating your home or driving your car. If you purchase $120 or more BEF Green Tags, you'll receive a $20 REI Gift Card, and if you purchase $200 or more BEF Green Tags, you'll get a $40 REI Gift Card.

If you gotta go, go green with REI Adventures and Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
