status quo won't do

In today's New York Times, there's a report that the Bush Administration now estimates that U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases will grow nearly as fast in the next ten years as they have over the past ten years.
Uh, folks, we need to do something about this!
It's not about reducing growth in GHG emissions, we need to actually reduce GHG emissions, period. Slicing the bologna from 11.6 % growth in emissions to 11% emissions isn't going to turn the ship around.
Sorry to say, I can't abide by White House spokeswoman Kirsten Hellmer's spin on this story:
The Climate Action Report will show that the President's portfolio of actions addressing climate change and his unparalleled financial commitments are working.
A reduction of .6% GHG emissions, spread over 10 years, sounds like business as usual to me.

Here's the February accounting of my family's steps and expenditures toward becoming carbon neutral:
$17.50 per month — to pay for 100% Green Power from Lower Valley Energy (based on 2006 usage)
$ 6.66 per month — for a Terrapass to offset our automobile driving miles (based on 17,213 miles driven in 2006; actual miles driven in February = 415, for a total of 990 miles driven so far this year)
======
$24.16
Year-to-date investment in carbon neutrality = $109.45
