green Valentines
Feb
I probably should have written this post last week–to give folks time to have Valentine's Day gifts shipped by ground, rather than by air. But, since I'm one of those guys who loves to shop on Christmas Eve, I don't usually give February 14th much thought until Lincoln's actual birthday.
So, when I ventured out shopping yesterday afternoon, only one thing was certain: the local florists were off limits. In the middle of winter here in Jackson, the odds are pretty high that every bloom arrived by plane and was grown in unsustainable ways. (Read The Hidden Life of Cut Flowers to see what's so unsustainable about the conventional cut-flower industry.) I could be wrong, but I don't think there are any VeriFlora outlets in Jackson Hole. (I coulda, shoulda called the shops to see, but I'm not an organized shopper.)
Not to worry. Jackson Whole Grocer sells organic chocolate. And there's always Ella's Room for intimate apparel, or The Alpine House for an eco-friendly overnight stay with breakfast, not to mention a restaurant or two that are sure to be featuring locally grown and/or organic, romantic feasts for two.
So what did I come up with for my Valentine? Not telling: she reads my blog daily. Suffice it to say it will be very rejuvinating.
