what goes around, comes around

After all the rants earlier this week, it's time to give credit to some folks who are doing good work on the carbon neutrality front:
First of all, even though he led off yesterday's post, Michael Dell and his computer company deserve a second mention and kudos for their new Plant A Tree For Me initiative. As I said: it's always great to see industry giants take advantage of huge media events to launch a BIG idea.
On the topic of planting trees: I recently came across a press release from Instant Karma Films that outlined founding partners Tanya Hunger and Craig Farkas' pledge to run a carbon neutral advertising production company.
We will be a carbon neutral company through conservation and offsets. We will encourage an industry-wide shift towards eco-production and use sustainable, renewable and recycled materials in all phases of production. We will utilize alternative, more climate friendly fuels and hybrid vehicles and generators. And when we cannot make the right choice, we will offset our carbon output by donating to organizations such as CarbonFund.org and American Forests, who are working to reduce climate change through their environmental programs.
On the eco-friendly computer front: I recently came across a story about Via Technologies and their clean computing initiatives. In particular, I was struck by their efforts to develop a solar-powered computer center on the South Pacific Island of Samoa, which gives villagers access to the internet for a range of purposes, including education and e-health.
On the local front, I'd like to point out that two of the bigger businesses around here have recently invested in either Green Power or green tags:
The Jackson Hole Airport Board recently announced that they would buy 20 percent of the airport’s energy needs through Lower Valley’s Green Power program, at a cost of about $9,000 per year.
Last fall, Grand Targhee upgraded its use of renewable energy to 100 percent by purchasing wind power credits through a green tag program.
Kudos to all for doing something positive and proactive to reduce CO2 emissions!
Carbon Neutral Journal's kudos are brought to you by Grand Targhee Resort.
